Which dimensions for standard full man-size targets?

Hi everyone,
I was considering building some targets and I was wondering what is most common or "official" size and format for shooting targets.

I have been taking a look at AR500 steel targets and I found different standards..I wonder if the "square and circle" combo for torso and head (as seen in Magpul Dynamics "Art of the Precision Rifle") are considered to be the standard..or maybe the classic one piece square head figure is..

Anyway, I would love to build a full size man-figure target from wood panels that are seamlessly bond together but can still fold and become easily portable. I will add a layer of aluminum or other light metal so that they "ring" when hit (it will also keep the wood from being damaged or deformed).

Any pointer or idea are welcome!

Some examples:

The average man is between 5'6" and 5'8". I'm 6'1", but keep that in mind for dummy...

Personally, i'd go for waist up sized target, most of the time you dont shoot at legs unless needed. Also with that said, if you have the sheet of aluminium you could have it split around the chest area (high chest) and attach with some door hinges, to each side of the wood, that way you have a way to fold it. To lock it you could use a simple system of some sort of small bolts (the like you have on a back garden fence)
I'd love to see this will an optional "sticky" panel to capture your shots and hold them. Just a second thought though, especially as you are practicing as a sniper, I might consider using a small camouflaged target, say no larger than 8" in diameter. They are easier to transport, less heavy, you could make multiple targets with the same amount of material.

Have a friend place them (take turns) and stalk an area, and find the camouflaged targets hidden or "barricaded" just like you would find a player in a real life scenario. Not only will you improve your stalking technique (you could have the friend "defend" the targets, and shoot you if you are spotted). Then you will gain experience in finding & shooting small concealed targets, so that when a large target presents itself shooting it will be a "cakewalk".

that seems like a good solid idea, it would also be really easy to do, just get a sheet of plywood, cut it into what ever size you want and spray it black. i wish i had a yard big enough to do that in.....

I agree with Jute
TO do smaller targets that give you reaction feedback you may want to look into POPPERS. They are small knockdown targets, easy to make. Held in place by magnets or just balanced.

You should make a string hole at the top and tie a fishing line through it... So you don't have to walk the 40 plus yards after they've been hit.

I use a piece of cardboard that I measure to be 25 cm across and 50 cm high when designating man-size.

I use cardboard on a tree. I can hear if I hit it or if it is the tree. What I might do is make thicker cardboard in some places to make a different sound so I can tell where It hit.

Nice, thanks! I will try and see if I can make a more tactical shooting target, resembling the guts-torso-head area, cut it horizontally and use hinges to fold it and keep it together. I will mostly use it to test an Airsoft kill from long range, say 300ft..during consistency tests and other changes to my hop nub, LRB, ER-hop etc..in the future.

I can still place paper targets on it and use it for shorter distances so it will work both ways..
