Your welcome. I wouldn't give up on this rifle just yet. That website has a lot of stuff for the svd springer. Me and my friend have been tinkering with his and it is a very capable platform. out of the box his had pretty impressive "accurate" range. I just wish we would have spent a bit more money and got a nice scope like you did.

Good luck. I hope you get all this busines with ASGI worked out so you and your son can get to having a good time with your new rifles.

I have yet to start anything with this rifle... it is actually a very nice rifle, if you can get past the fact that it is bolt action instead of semi-auto:

  • The magazine is in the correct location...
  • It has excellent parts installed by the mfg...
  • Looks great...
  • Extremely affordable...
  • Upgradeable...
I really like this rifle, I just need time to get used to it's quirks... and yes, I hope that Airsoft GI makes good and replaces the 2nd rifle for us.

Nothing yet from Airsoft GI or UPS on our rifle that was delivered damaged. But I did go ahead and order these **minor** upgrade/downgrade parts: The first is two M130 springs. My son dislikes the M150, so I purchased one ea of the M130 springss and will test the value of the M150 over an M130 in regards to power. Next, I picked up this nifty little upgrade, it is a machined charging handle extension. If you have not tried to charge the handle on an A&K SVD w/ an M150 spring, then you would not know how much your fingers hurt after only 10 or 15 rounds... here is a link to the extension:

I plan to start shooting some videos of various testing with these rifles, but not until our second rifle arrives...

Update: Airsoft GI finally shipped out our replacement A&K SVD, and it is on the UPS truck today for delivery. I will do an unboxing video, just in case I need documented evidence if another of these rifles comes to us damaged.

On my sons SVD, we installed the extended bolt handle part, and this really helped to ehance the enjoyment of pulling back that M150 spring. It looks awkward, but is quite effective and worth the price of ownership. More to report after we get our repalcement later this evening.

have not had a chance to get to this rifle, as I am neck deep in high school marching season activities. But, I will pull the rifle out of the box and begin my review. I will most definitely do a shooting review.

Here is one observation about the A&K SVD that I really like... The magazine is in the correct location!! Unlike the M24's and the UTG, WELL and multiple other L96 variants, Tokyo Marui AWS L96 excluded, these all have the magazines far forward of their original positioning.

What else is there to like right off; Aluminum piston; steel sear; all metal components; sturdy polymer furniture; M150 spring; simple and easy to work on... the rifle is a pretty sweet platform to work from.

What's not to like right off; this semi-automatic design is designed as a bolt action; the rifle is tough to cycle due to the supplied M150 spring; the magazines miss-feed (ours do). The bonus; if you can get past the bolt action/semi-auto issue, most of the problems are fixable.

Granted, I have not messed with my rifle at all, as it just arrived last week from Airsoft GI. But I did shoot my sons rifle some, and I have to say, when his rifle was not miss-feeding, it was hiting a man-sized target 200+ feet away. The bb's flight path was also straight, with no fliers. My son and I are going to tear down the rifles and clean everything up, tighten all the screws, and seal the usual suspect areas with teflon tape, and then put the rifle through it's paces. I'll note here that I did order bolt handle extensions, that greatly reduce the uncomfortable problem caused by cycling the factory 150 spring... I highly recommend this part to anyone; they cost $18 at Evike. We also have M130 springs, and will be doing velocity testing, to see if lightening the spring to help with bolt cycling, will adversly affect the FPS...

Finally; at first try, the real scopes we bought for these rifles do not fit, but I am assured that there is a way to mod the mounts on either the rifle or the scope, so that they marry-up nicely... more to come.

The mount slides on up to the center tighening block on the scope mount, then it won't go any further. I believe that a little adjustment on the block, and the mount will go right on. I do not have a spanner tool, but I may be able to improvise a way to loosen the nut a bit.

This is the closest pic I have for now...

yep, these mounts looke very similar, so it is just a matter of adjustment.

On a side note, I may end up painting my scope so that it will not look like pewter when mounted to my rifle... I hate to mar an original finish though... we'll see how I like it on the rifle before I commit to ruining an original finish.

I was cleaning my SVD the other day, and I decided to snap some pics of the internals. Fist I will say, that I am impressed with the A&K internals, all of which seem to be made from decent materials... no plastic here in this group shot:

Image

I do not know the specs on the piston, and I cannot confirm that it is efficient in any way... but it looks the part of quality, a far cry from the plastic pistons found in other airsoft bolt action platforms...

Image

The spring guide / rear mounting block are a nice quality build as well. They may be pot metal, but they seem to be a perfect fit...

Image

The nozzle has such tight threads, and closes up so tight, that I do not believe I will be doing the teflon tape mod...

So I have to ask, why did A&K get the whole "magazine-in-the-correct-location" thing by utilizing AEG spring sets, yet the bolt action rifles have these elaborate set-ups that place the magazines in the wrong location...(?) Just thinking out loud is all. I will chrono the rifle today, and post the video later.

Here is the first video of the A&K SVD. It is merely getting a base point fps reading with 0.2g ammo:

Indeed ... It does look good.

And you're so right about the mag location of the bolt action springers!
It doesn't has the stupid feed ramp of the TM L96 that gives so much troubles.

Wolf
My guess is that the short pull on the A&K SVD allows for the magazine placement to be correct. A normal bolt action has far too much travel, and that is how the feed ramp came to be.

Pretty sweet. You're lucky to have alot of land to test on.
The land sight has a lot to offer... I have fired everything from airsoft to air rifle and real steel weapons out here... including my Mosin Nagant and my M1 Garand.
