Sorry I only check this thread occasionally. So much internets, so little time. :p

That's what I'm confused about. Why wouldn't a regular r hop work with a gas rifle?
If you're using a phase change power source (something like CO2 or propane which goes from liquid to gas) it won't completely not-work, but it'll be sub optimal because dropping the temperature will change the hardness and friction response. Thats why a thermally stable (IR-hop) is typically preferred.

could some answer me if its possible to r hop a stock tanaka barrel
Which Tanaka? (not familiar with this forum's vernacular, but as I do recall Tanaka made multiple guns. In short though, as long as it has a barrel window and a normal roughly eight and a half millimeter barrel OD it can be done. Some benefit from minor window modification though.

Anyone in the uk know how to install an r hop and where's the best place to purchase?
On the HSA website (am I allowed to link directly to it here? If not mods please edit as you see fit. No digital spankings..... I might enjoy it too much anyway :hehe:) there is a section which lists dealers and their rough geographic locations:
https://sites.google.com/site/hsarmory/contact/hsa-dealer-network

Hope that helps.

Sorry if this is a necro, I'm trying out the r-hop and was wondering if I have to do any mods to my hop up arm?? I'm currently using a dangerwerks type b hop up arm( the one with the fangs(not to sure if its a type b or type a.) But I was wondering if I have to mod it to make full contact with the whole hop up patch instead of just the fangs making contact???
I don't mean to come in and shit on dangerwerks here, but I do dearly wish he'd make a flat arm. I actually toyed around with VSR arms myself, albeit not as nice as his, and you can find the results under the "concepts" section on the HSA site. His arms are designed with a traditional mound in mind, which does admittedly grant them drop-in compatibility with some of the short window barrels out there, but means with elongated hops you get contact over just part of the hop reducing efficacy. Its also quite rigid and hard, so there is no give which presents a number of problems. (part of what killed off the SCS)

When I did my version of the VSR arm, I wanted something you could hand-fit a soft nub (M-nub) to. The issue is the VSR has so little travel, and a soft nub compounds this issue. I modded the channel in my arm to give a greater range of adjustment to compensate. The project never really took off, and Dangerwerks' arms are much nicer, but yes while you don't have to modify them, ideally you'd flatten them and have a soft elongated nub.

As an aside, if someone has a question they need answered here, just shoot me a PM. :shot: Cheers everyone. :D

I second that if anyone has contact info for sumone to install a r hop in the us pm me the info

Well, nearly 3 months of rhop usage behind me, I can't help but notice that this thing is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, I have to admit that I have a slight problem, and I would love to see what people advise to fix this.

My gun shoots out to 85m pretty accurately now. Hitting a man sized target 8-9/10 times. The only thing is that I get the occasional "underhopped" bb. It still goes far(say 75m) but it flies noticeably lower than the rest of them. It happens maybe 1/10 or 1/20. Hard to say... The only difference is its height. Nothing else. They still fly laser straight, just with less lift. Could this be due to uneven sanding/bad installation?

I ordered 2 feet of tubing from mj, so I'll try to make another one and see how it performs then when the tubing arrives.

Cheers.

What grit did you finish the install with? Is it a genuine rhop? Did you sand the trailing and leading edges of the rhop?

hey! uh with a 600 grit.

yes both ends are lightly sanded. and yes it is a genuine rhop patch. its not a problem for me to be honest, its just a bit confusing, because i know of 'fliers' that go either left or right, but never heard of any the just...hop less.

I was thinking that a very minor pinch jam could cause a slightly lower fps, but since you sanded both edges it doesn't seem to be viable.

Perhaps try asking this question to hs5 directly on the r hop thread on Airsoft Mechanics.

Just wondering. Why people wouldn't want to use IR or IER hop, is R or ER hop more accurate?

Is R or ER hop compatible with pdi hop-up chamber (ver2. for vsr)? I already have that chamber and pdi soft rubber. What do you think, should I make ER-hop mod?

Ir material is harder to work with and more expensive.

Yes it is compatible although the em nub is quite challenging to tune correctly.

Just a question, searched for this but came up empty, has anyone noticed a change in the sound of their gun after fitting r hop?
Finally got around to finishing my Vsr yesterday and I'm sure there is more piston noise, like the bb isn't being 'retained' for as long?
Not a big deal, I'm just curious [emoji41]

I think there would probably be some change in noise, but it would be so small you wouldn't be able to hear it. That's like worrying over the sound the trigger makes as the bushings rotate.

Try putting a normal bucking back in and see if it sounds quieter. I could be wrong.

I fitted a IR hop to my tanaka a few days ago.I only did a little testing and sanding before my game yesterday but with the limited space it seemed ok.

So yesterday I was using it at the game day and its behaving rather strange. I realise I need to do more sanding as its over hopping, but this is where it differ's to any other gun I've had over hop.
Its set up so no hop is applied and with a .4 its going 60-70meters then over hopping, this has always occurred well before this distance. I also noticed that the more i was using it the more it would over hop.

Anyone else had similar?
