Normally you just put one or two layers around the spring but the mod does not last that long. You never know though, you may have better luck than me.

 

I guess I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it, being that once compressed, the wrap job would be destroyed in theory.
I guess it's kind of like a one day fix. One that has to be redone frequently.

Thank 1Tonne! The spring is the last thing left to attack for noise. Not a big deal, but just looking for cheap mods on this.

 

You would be surprised how much just adding a good coating of grease silences a vibrating spring. I coat my AEG springs now because of the noise difference I've noticed.

 

With what kind of grease? I might do this.

What I can remember from airgun springs is that tar is used to quiet down the springs.
I cannot remember exactly which tar, google has plenty of links.

Coating the spring with grease works. I also shove heatshrink over the spring guide, gives that extra effect.

 

Has anyone tried plastidip? That rubber like coating? I think because its flexible, it should last a bit longer than tape...

 

Killer, literally coating the spring eh? That sounds like something that may even work...

But yeah, grease on the spring generally tends to help, I'd recommend it.

 

I use superlube for everything, even electronics. I suppose white lithium would be fine too.

 

I like the plasti dip idea. I wonder if there is any way to thin it though. I have some and it's pretty thick. One coat would have a tough time fitting over the spring guide.
But, I guess I could use a brush to coat the spring or dip and shake off as much as possible to get a thin coat.
I have an extra cylinder setup. Will try it and document this week.

 

I would be careful with rubber coating things that are dynamicly moving. I would wager a lot that shortly it will scrape off from the force of the spring compressing. After that youll find chips of the stuff everwhere.

 

I wonder however how much that will occur, I don't think it'll be too bad.

Still, grease works just as fine, so I'll stick to that :hehe:

 

Well, I will experiment with the spare parts I have. Will try to test this week. I am guessing before pics and pics at 100 rds and 500 rds should do.
While I agree that it will likely deteriorate soon, I am curious as to how much and how soon.
We will see.
