After about a month or two of building the most important tool for my M40A3, the foam cutter, it is finished, and even more important, it WORKS! I was planning on it failing, but now that it is working, I am going to start as soon as a can on my M40A3. First I am going to cut out the shape of the stock, then do the details of the stock. After this is done, I am going to cover the stock in fiberglass, paint it, and if I get the barrel in time, put my G&G G96 barrel I am buying from raultiger into the stock. If all goes well I am planning on selling these stocks for about $150, not including the cheek rest. Thanks for all your guys support, especially Bushmaster Recon. Post pictures soon:tup:

Any chance you will be able to model a L96 stock?

Here are a few pictures, the only foam I could fine laying around the house was foam peanuts! It is called a Hot Wire Foam Cutter, the wire heats up, melting the foam as it comes in contact with it, slicing the foam like butter!

Looks nice. I think the wire needs some more tension, it looks loose. What's the power source?

I have a friend who made something similar, but used an old coping saw with a wooden handle. That way he could pick it up and work on huge foam blocks.

Yeah the wire is a bit loose, going to try and fix it. About the power source, it is plugged into the wall. This was the most difficult of the whole thing because I know close to nothing about electrical stuff. Used a transformer and a dimmer to control the power.

If only I knew....I would have offered my help. For the last 8 years I have been building foam core sailplane wings. I have cut up thousands of pieces of foam. I have a drop are cutter and a scroll saw style cutter and a slitter. I still have a huge vacuum system as well. If I can help now feel free to ask. I still have some glass if you need some.

Ask and I will do what I can.

Just to clarify, you mean tempered glass to cut things on, or something completely different? If so I might be hitting you up, I got a hot knife (okay, soldering gun...) coming in to cut webbing, and I've been trying to figure out what to cut things on.

Thanks for the offer builder! I have run into a few bugs, need insulation wire for the wire that is going around the rig, also need to attach my fuse-holder. Tried it out on some big pieces of foam and the wire is bending, so I need to tighten that up a bit. I am just glad it is working;) But if I have a problem, you may get a pm from me.

Edit: Forgot to ask, what do you mean by glass? I think masterjuggler is asking the same question, I am completely new to the whole foam cutting business.
