I examined it on the ground and found the little red hourglass on its underside and again said "Oh crap...". So I picked it up and took inside and set it down on the computer desk and ID'ed it as a male. Thank God they aren't anywhere near as venomous as females. That was pretty scary!
Don't males have dots all over them, not a hour glass. i thought i read that somewhere.

Male black widow don't resemble females at all aside from their legs. Abdomens are very small, and they have orange blobs on their back with black and white swirls rippling out from the center.

Normally I'm not too freaked out by spiders, but if they get big or if there are lots of them I sometimes build a makeshift flamethrower out of a spray bottle, rubbing alcohol, and a birthday candle held close to the nozzle by a piece of cardboard taped to the bottle. Once it gets past a certain point I can't keep my cool and I just have to flame them lol.

If you rally can't stand getting near them or anything, kipkay (google him) built a contraption out of pvc tubing and one of those compressed air duster cans that looks like a rifle but it sucks spiders instead. It doesn't kill them, so you would have to empty it out somehow though.

KIPKAY! I love le kipkay.

Remember that the brown recluses have those violin shapes on their backs. Found an 1.5 inch one under my shoe a couple days ago. I HATE SPIDERS.

well hell, This thread ain't dying so I will stay in the shadows *lurkmode*

:OOOOOO, I have NEVER seen a tarantula, and I'm in Norcal/Bay area. That freaks me out a lot:( lol I have infact had an encounter with a Black Widow that scared me like craazy. I was working at my former elementary school helping the staff post some bulletins up with my friends when one of my buddies yells "Dude, you have a spider on your back!" I started freaking out and jumping and taking my shirt off (lol arachnophobia) and throw it on the ground. When I see the spider, it was a BLACK WIDOW:( It was ~1 inch away from my collar/my neck and it was a femaleDD: Lol one of my other friends said he saw it climbing up my back, but I guess he didn't find it important to warn me or anything-_- One of the scariest moments of my life. :( loool

Before I lived in Louisiana I lived in Chicago, so when I was a kid I visited my family that lives here. As soon as they showed me to the room I would be sleeping in a tarantula fell from the ceiling and landed on the floor. And what was even scarier was that without missing a beat my cousin scooped up his football helmet and smashed it. So obviously he was accustomed to dealing with the local pests...

I live in the San Dieo area and i've never seen a spider while airsofting, though I have a tarantula making a daring trip across a dirt road. The larger airsofting areas here are outdoors so you won't find spiders making webs in the corner of a building, as there arn't many buildings. I'd be more woried about rattle snakes than anything else. However if you're in a sanctioned airsoft field then the chance of you running into either snake or spider is low since so many people have trampled the spots previously.

I feel like I'm bumping this but I didn't really see a good answer.

I live in Orange County (Between LA and SD) and I play in very woodlandy place next to my house. I have encountered Bobcats, a mountain lion and a few deer (and a buttload of Coyotes). I couldn't tell you once of ever encountering spider. However sometimes I do see their webs, but I normally just walk or go around them. You will see more snakes and other "fun" animals. But not very many spiders. Even at the registered fields I've been at I can't ever tell you once of me seeing a spider so you'll be fine :)

Fun fact, my dad was bitten by two black widows on his feet (while wearing sandals) in the same day, nothing happened. Infact most of those horrific photo's you see hardly happen form what the doctor told my dad (mind you my dad went to the doctors a good couple of days later.) So spiders really aren't as bad as most people make them out to be! :)

Thanks Bladez! That would be precisely the area where I would be moving to. Thanks for the info everyone and thanks for not putting up pics, every time I would come to this thread, I was afraid that some idiot who didn't read the beginning (or a person trying to be funny) would post a pic. Thanks! :yup:

I hate spiders too bro. I live in southern Cali, a little north of San Diego, the area I play is on an Indian reservation and there is many many many spiders, I've yet to see any tarantulas or black widows, hopefully i never do. But I see so many wolf spiders, it's like they just breed all day. Every time I look down into the fallen leaves and take a step I see atleast 4 or 5 move. But while sniping, the intensity makes me forget so I try not to remember haha but I never get bites or anything, they are harmless. I don't know what they eat though because there's no way that there's enough food for all of them. 2 weekends ago we saw the first rattle snake of the year. But one of the dudes I play with moved a piece of metal in the forest like an idiot for no apparent reason and found it chilling there. I was no where near. You should be more afraid of rattlers then anything. But that's my opinion haha
