So has anybody tried fitting the SSG24 hop up unit into an A&K M24, I tried the search engine and could get no answer, I have the newest A&K version but would like to upgrade the hop up unit, thanks for any help

Not sure if you are still monitoring this... but why would you want to upgrade? I have the same rifle and really the HopUp chamber is excellent. I am having as good accuracy as anyone with the rifle, but I did modify to accept VSR barrels.

Unfortunately not since the spec is completely different

And no the hop up chamber is far from being excellent. It has serious specs issue which needs a lot of sanding and has the absolute worst type of plastics used in its construction. It's definitely possible to be made to be usable but certainly not what one would describe as "great".

I respectfully disagree with "it's possible to be made to be usable".

Agreed it does not come in a ready to play condition. You need to add a TDC, modify to get it to fit VSR barrels, change out the hop arm, do some seal work, and add some minor shimming of the hop arm chamber, as well as finally buying a usable bucking for the unit.

However if you do the above (as far as modifications for VSR or other platforms I've worked on, these steps were not very complicated)... The rifle becomes as accurate as any action army VSR hop chamber I have used. I have one with an effective range of 85-90 yards, and 8/10 torso hits at 98.8 yards (.45g bb and no wind of course).

To me this is an excellent level of performance that does need a bit of elbow grease to achieve, but I think very acceptable.

My question would be, can this not be done with the A&K hop up unit as well? Is there a significant difference between the two? I have no experience with either so I really don't know. The other question is, the reason to buy an ssg is the idea of NOT having to do these things and getting acceptable performance correct? If you are willing to mod, why get an ssg when you can get an A&K m24 or bar-10 for a lot less? I am probably missing something here but just curious on those matters as I may be doing some builds this summer with these platforms.

I think you are missing something here 🙂

I was referring to the way to make the A&K M24 hop unit very usable through modification-not the way to make the SSG24 hop unit usable. From my understanding this is an excellent hop chamber that comes very accurate from the box.

Gotcha, yep that makes total sense:tup:. Seeing how the thread is getting an ssg hop up into a A&K, I mistook that the solution is buy an ssg and mod it, or fit the ssg hop up unit in the A&K and then mod it too lol:doh: :lmao: Good to hear good things about the potential of the A&K. It is probably the route I am going for my summer build for a friend. After rereading, I am not sure how I got confused. I feel pretty dumb now lol! :lmao:

If you are in North America you can blame it on being morning 🙂

I do like the A&K M24 though. I've been looking and can't find a better budget rifle that can be made to shoot near the 300 ft mark for about 200 usd all in. Let me know if you have questions about getting it to shoot well if you do go this route.

Yep in the usa and not a morning person lol!

That is what I was thinking based on all the research, and the point of my summer project. A budget 275-300ft rifle. I am sure I will have some questions for you when I get there.
