Guess it is about time I joined these forums. I started playing airsoft in high school, and was between the two groups of friends - old enough (and liked enough) to hang with the older crowd, but old enough to serve as the defacto leader of the younger group.
The older group played paintball, and convinced me to buy stuff to play. I ended up only getting to play 1 game before they went off to college, and so the $500+ I spent on all my paintball gear went to waste. Needless to say when the younger group started to get into airsoft, I was less than thrilled - until I joined them for a game. I don't have to tell you guys all the reasons airsoft is better....
Having clout with my friends and all their parents, I quickly ended up becoming the main person persuading parents to host games at their houses - never as many games as we liked, but enough. I also was the OG sniper - after much convincing, I got the FPS limit upped to 450 so that I could buy my UTG M324. My brother and several friends soon followed suit. .2g BBs were the high-quality sniper ammo back then!
After I went off to college I didn't really have the opportunity to play, and after graduating kind of forgot there were airsoft fields to play at. My rifles's sear finally failed a few years back when I was teaching my kids on it, but when a friend suggested we all go play last December we were all on board.
Needless to say, it didn't take very long for me to remember how much I loved the sport. It was a bit rough for my brother and I, using our old .2g ammo on a field that wasn't set up for snipers, but we still had a great time.
We got the ammo issue sorted - and my brother a new gun (his UTG finally broke too), and had a great time at 878 Airsoft a few weeks back. If you are interested in the highlight video from the day, you can find it here:

We were both really pleased with our gun's performances; the ammo made all the difference!
Our current plan is to play every other month. Eventually, I want to get an SSG96, as I've always wanted a nice L96, but in the meantime my BBTac M62 is doing pretty great. That brings me to a question I had for yall.
I am planning on getting an upgraded spring and sear, but I'm torn on replacing the stock hop up unit and/or bucking. Right now, out of a 430 FPS gun, I can get about 230ft before .4g bbs start to drop pretty quickly (hop nearly maxed). I know the Action Army VSR-10 hop up chamber fits in my gun, so does that mean the Maple Leaf chamber would fit as well? I have always found myself having to adjust my hop up multiple times throughout the day, so the idea of having to use an allen key to do so is a big con in my book. I understand the maple leaf retains the stock functionality, but I'm not sure it fits. My main goal is to be able to launch .4g or higher BBs out to 300ft - which I think will be accomplished with a higher power spring. As you can see from the highlight video, the accuracy of the stock gun itself is quite good, but the 230ft range felt a bit limiting. There were several 250ft+ kills I would have gotten had I been using my brother's SSG10. Ideally, I'd just drop in Maple Leaf 70 bucking in the stock unit, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Is it? If not, should I bother investing in a hop up chamber if I'm satisfied with the range after getting a new spring?
Thanks in advance, and looking forward to participating here!
