Trip mines

Last Sunday, I was lying in a ditch waiting for the enemy to come. I was watching our teams flank and I was there to hold up any enemy attack trying to flank our team. While I was waiting there I was thinking to myself, wouldn't it be useful to have a trip mine down the way they would come come if they were to attack.

Since then I have been thinking alot about how to get a trip mine. However I am not sure on how to go about it. There are several things I have to consider:
» one is that I dont have the budget to go out and buy an airsoft claymore or mine. That means it will have to be cheap so it will probably be a DIY job.
» two is that the sites I play at dont allow grenades or mines to be filled with BBs so it needs to be something that makes a loud noise.
»three is that it needs to be small enough to be easy enough to carry.

Hoping to hear your thoughts and ideas. Is the requirements too much to ask for or is it possible.

Happy posting.

Use rat-traps, which you rig with those party pop things. (Two strings, with a charge in the middle, when you pull em, they explode)

You can also rig the "Arm" which hits the rat, with a pouch of some sorts in between. You then restrict the arm to about 45 degrees, with metal flexible wire (or very strong fishing line).

This way, you can fill the pouch with anything you want (powder for example), and rig the trigger of the trap with a fishing line.

I have made about 12, and they throw bb's up to 10 meters! their very cost effective, and work like a charm!

I'll try to find them and post some pics.

what a buddy on my team did is collect old AEG springs, mounts a washer to the top of it, and sticks the whole thing in a piece of PVC pipe with a stake glued to the side. he then gets a nail which he pushes through a whole in the side to hold the spring loaded washer down. stake the pipe on one side of a trail, while putting a piece of string around the head of the nail and tie it off across the trail. cost is pretty negligible, you can make 5-6 for less then $10 USD.

hmm, i see i forget the part where it gets armed..... to arm it you compress the spring, then put the nail in to retain the spring. pour some bb's in the top. now it is armed, and when some unsuspecting target walks across the trail and pulls out the nail, a shower of bb's will come flying out of the pipe.

Do they allow M203 grenades? If they do, it's fairly easy to rig up an ied type mine with an M203 in some pvc. You then make a hole in the end cap, and rig up a mousetrap firing mechanism attached to some fishing line.

Cornstartch is also easily dissolvable in water.

Why do they not allow the grenades to throw bb-frag?

I have to say that Thunder Bs are not a well made system, or that they could do better. The CO2 is too violent, and it often breaks parts in the inner core. Expect to have to buy a new core every couple months. Also, it explodes above the pain-threshold of sound. At the CQB field near me, they are forbidden unless everyone consents.

With solarisjocks idea, you could easily turn that into a sound making device. Instead of leaving the end where the bbs or powder would normally come out open, you could put a cap on it. if you glued (or epoxied) another washer the the underside of the cap it would be even louder. When the spring was released, the two washers would slam together and create a very loud sound. This would be completely reusable and very cheap to make.
Now that i'm thinking about this I might have to make one for myself....:)

Are you talking to me? I would be happy to but I am out of town right now and I will be for about 5 days, but when I get back there is a chance I will make one. If I do, ill be sure to post some pictures and/or videos.

I could not feel safe because it demonstrates a gross lack of understanding of physics, and numpties frighten me.

Are the peagrenades sold in Ireland?

There are also some stupid laws about it on the books. I heard a constable in--I want to say New Zealand--saying airsoft guns could not be allowed to have autofire because there is no possible way to write a law that bans real machine guns but allows airsoft guns. He is not a big fan of the maths I gather.

Anyway, there are some decent spring-powered claymore designs that can be built for not too much. Basically they are two rat-traps with a pocket attached between the arms in a tin. When the lid opens, (by a latch and electrical actuator or tripline), the arms pop out and fling whatever is in the pocket.

When I feel less heady on painkillers, I can search for some designs. Or, you might find yourself a guide by availing of Uncle Google.

I've done exactly what solarisjock was talking about, just use old AEG/LPEG/pistol springs, 1.5inch PVC pipe, a few nails to act as a stopper for the spring, 2 screws in the top as a stopper for the PVC end cap I used as the washer that held the bb's for launching, and make a nail as the trigger, just tied off to a string on a tree across the path. These aren't the strongest, but you can also use the crappiest bb's ever with no issues, because you're just giving the target a little shower of bb's. Simply lube the nail that acts as the trigger up a bit to help ease it out of the hole (that sounds bad) where it keeps the end cap compressed. to load these I jst used a piece of .5 inch CPVC pipe about 8 inches long to compress the end cap and springs, then placed the nail in the (for lack of a better term) trigger hole, then tied the whole thing off between 2 trees. I had the trip mine itself screwed on to a tree using 90 degree mounting brackets and had the string set using those screws that look like question marks (eyelets or something like that) so that when the trap was trigger, the string would be pulled in such a manner that the trap's muzzle would be pointed right where the string owuld be tripped. Kinda hard to explain, actually.

Here's a short video. I don't have the trap anymore though, someone removed it from the tree I had it set to sometime in the last 2 months. Not the greatest video, but you'll get the gist.

I've made a few different homemade DIY mines. One of the first ones I made(about a year back) was the PVC pipe and AEG spring one some people mentioned. I liked these since they were cheap, fast and easy to make, however they didn't preform as well as I wanted in terms of projecting bbs, but they do work great as a sound mine if you put those popper things in them.

Another type of mine I've made more recently resembles a claymore. It is trip activated and can shoot about 300 bbs 30+ ft. These took a bit more time and materials to make, but they work really well imo. I have three of them and use them currently in my skirmishes.
Maybe these pictures can give you some ideas...

I think your best bet right now if your limited with money and resources is to make the PVC pipe mines and just play around with them to get them working as sound mines. It shouldn't take much and they should work pretty well for what you need.

Hope this helps you with some inspiration on creating your mines. Once you get your idea going, be sure to keep us updated!
